Audible Covers

Various audiobook covers designed
for Audible’s original content.

For The Halifax Slasher, a true crime story set in 1930s Yorkshire, I aimed to evoke the aesthetic of 1970s Italian giallo film posters. I achieved this by distorting a screaming woman's face and cranking the contrast. A dithering effect mimicked duotone/halftone, adding texture and leaning into the lo-fi nature often seen in horror film posters.

Think Like a Spy brings together real life spys recounting their experiences in the field, and how you can apply their intellegence techniques in your everyday life. I was inspired by mid-century modern illustration and 60s spy cinema for this cover. I wanted the spy to be ‘hidden’ but also the centrepiece so I created depth with the foreground elements but used very poppy colours to highlight the spy character in the background. The type treatment was chosen to evoke documents/printed ephemera to tie into the office theme.

A Grown-up Guide To Dinosaurs is an original Audible podcast revealing new dinosaur facts from cutting edge research. I took inspiration from vintage field guides and fossil charts; I wanted something fun but still leaning towards credibility and history as adults are the primary target audience. The type is mimicing cracked stone or bone to tie it into the fossil theme while still retaining enough boldness to be read at a small size.

This podcast tells the story of the creation of Johnny Cash’s iconic 1968 ‘At Folsom Prison’ album. I wanted to reference the very graphic Blue Note album covers of the 60s, utilising their strong sharp shapes. I skewed it towards country music with the more muted colour palette and the stencil style type choice. The central imagery doubles as a guitar neck and a prison cell door to tie the two themes of the audiobook together.
